Showing the first view of Red Oak DuskRed Oak Dusk
A glowing Sunset cast into shape
Moving past the bright side of this piece is like fast forwarding a sunset.
The deep blacks become shapeless form, the earthy surroundings still remember the warmth of the light.
Materials and Process
A 24mm thick red oak board is traced along the growth lines digitally to create an exact recess along those lines using a CNC router.
Slots are cut using the same machine and fitted with 173 slices of paper.
The 3D profile is created by painting abstract, flowing lines with ink and using the color values as representation for height.
Painting is done using an airbrush. The black side is painted with ultra absorbent pigment. With the right lighting conditions it is indistinguishable from a flat surface.
